War And A Heavy Heart On A Thursday Night…….

My heart is heavy tonight and I couldn't help but share some of my thoughts with you all. Our tiny country is once again at war with the neighbors. Not the kind of neighbors who play loud music or leave their garbage on the sidewalk, but rather neighbors whose soul intention is to wipe us, the Jewish people, off the face of the planet. Nice, huh?

And how does one even begin to comprehend war? I really don't have any answers.

All I know is that while I'm sitting at my computer writing posts about my little vacation in Barcelona, 30,000 soldiers are on call for duty, hundreds of thousands are spending the night in bomb shelters in southern Israel, and families are sitting shiva for three innocent souls lost today when a missile hit their home. A neighbor's son is on duty, a friend's brother is in the reserves and has been called, I see a mother's worried expression as I do my grocery shopping tonight, and I can't imagine how it must feel to send a son off to war.

And while I don't have answers, it occurs to me that just as an artist's work is very often a product of his environment, so too everything that I share with you here is certainly influenced by the constant turmoil that is a part of our lives here in Israel. So my friends, when you share with me the joys of creativity, motherhood and life as a Jewish woman, do take a moment to look beyond the washi tape and the tissue paper to really understand what it's all about………bringing joy into the world in the face of evil. And that indeed could be an answer, or even a solution in itself, couldn't it?

Thank you. i grew up in Israel, when i first came we lived in Sde Nehemia and `enjoyed` Syrians shooting at us. later i grew through the many wars, and terrorists attacks, and have lost friends.
We in the North of Israel have experienced missiles through the second Lebanon war. My late ,other who lived in Nahriya experienced Katyusha missiles over many years.
Let`s hope that we all will come through safely. May there soon be Peace all over the world

Living in Australia, where I feel so safe, it is hard for me to comprehend war so close to home. I hope you stay safe, and that peace comes to your country very soon.

Thanks so much Lindy! It is a truly surreal situation to be so close to war and yet not be physically affected by it…….all the best to you!

My prayers are with you and your beautiful country. Just remember that the Jewish people are God’s chosen people and although He allows us to go through many trials, He is with you. Just as He has allowed us in the United States another four years with president who does honor and glorify Him, it looks like He is now allowing His precious Israel to be attacked. America is praying for you. Be safe and please continue to keep us updated.

My prayers are with you. A friend is supposed to be leaving soon from America to see her son get married in Israel. He, too, is in the reserves there. I worry about them, I worry about all of the people in Israel. Please be safe and know I am praying for Israel.

Such a lovely bittersweet post, I can only imagine the emotions that run through your heart at times like these. Going about your daily life creating beauty and joy in cheerful harmony while holding a secret breath inside for the state of affairs around you. Just reading your words I can feel your compassion for those touch more closely by war. You are an inspiration of strength and grace in turbulent times. Be well, be safe.

Thank you, Sara, for the reminder to think seriously – it means a lot coming from you. I have been reading about it in the news but it’s different when a friend describes the feeling of being there.

I wanted to let you know that you – all of your countrymen – are in my thoughts, Sara.
It is beyond imagining to think of being surrounded by organizations of people bent on destruction of a whole country.
But sadly, as I grow older, I see anger and stupidity and hate and evil – negative energy all around – and certainly in all forms of entertainment and media. So to speak to your last statement in this post, anything we do to remind each other of the good and beautiful aspects of human nature is important. The people I have met on line, connections I have made, have served to remind me of all the good that does exist and that is being shared and expressed each day.

Praying for safety for you and your nation. Having visited Isreal last summer the horror seems so much closer. It is so awful to watch the news about bombs dropping on places where I have stood and enjoyed the beauty and history of your land. 🙁 Praying for safety for you all. Blessings –

Thanks so much Pam, beautiful sentiments!

Thanks MIchelle, so happy to hear sentiments from so many readers. The interesting thing for us, is that our enemies do not have armies that can match ours, by any means,
meaning there is no chance of them flying overhead and dropping bombs as one might expect during wartime. They are able to send missiles from their territory into ours, and fortunately many of those missiles are intercepted by our security system. So its a game of sirens and running into bomb shelters when the sirens go off, certainly very scary for children especially and very disprutive as far as daily living.
While all of Israel is volatile, those of us (namely me) who dont live near the borders currently under attack are also experiencing things from afar, even though were so very close!

I was shocked and saddened to read of the attack on Jerusalem, and I thought of you and all the people like you who are not allowed to live their lives in peace. You are in my thoughts and I pray for the madness to end.

Thanks so very much Theresa! We actually live in Northern Israel, which is not currently connected to this conflict. So while just a few hours away people are fleeing to bomb shelters, our daily lives have not been affected physically. Of course a moment doesnt pass that we arent thinking about our soldiers and reservists called in to duty, and of course friends and family who do live in areas that are affected.

Just saw your post and wanted to send my thoughts and prayers to you and yours. My fiance’s sister is in Beth Shemesh and his mother in Jerusalem and he skype talks to both of them as often as possible but he hates being so far away here in Africa and not able to help them. How I wish the fighting and killing could be no more and the world at peace.

Amen! Thanks so much for sharing Sheleen! When you come to Israel let me know!

Please know we are keeping you, your family and country in our thoughts and prayers. This time in our lives has come to extreme sadness in so many ways around the world, and here in the USA. Your faith and country is under attack and the freedom of religion in our country is slowly being crushed and little freedoms are lost everyday. It’s a new world. I pray your family, countrymen and country stay safe and pray that something will stop this insanity.
On a happier note, I wait each day to see your post in the mail. My file is full of crafts. Love your ideas, your sharing of your children and travels and everything you post. I enjoy and appreciate all! Thank you for all you do and for your sharing.
    Shalom
