Every year, and for every Jewish holiday I do try to make something new, whether lately with my boy’s crafting club, or not, and this Rosh HaShana the new decorations to honor the holiday are all about, very surprisingly to me, cross stitch! I started doing some cross stitch while on vacation this summer, and I have not gotten it out of my system just yet, so more cross stitch it will be. Of course this in place of the art that I need to get back to, but so it goes, there is just something so very calming about spending hours making little x’s! I of course recommend starting a project to work on with tiny pockets of time, but that never quite works with me, as I just like to finish! So far I’ve made a cross stitch wall hanging for the dollhouse (yet to share) and a cross stitch rug for the dollhouse that I don’t love, and an apples in a row cross stitch, that I do love. And now I share with you my apples and bees and blossoms cross stitch for Rosh HaShana, designed more or less on the canvas, rather than on paper, which isn’t the best way to create an embroidery piece, because there will be lots of stitches to pull out, but so it goes! As you can see I went against the standard rule, and made the apple with cross stitch stitches that are twice as large as the rest, and use the whole 6 strands of embroidery floss, something to consider! Okay, lets take closer look at this project……..
You’ll Need:
- embroidery floss, 6 strands separated into 3 strands, or as with apple and larger stitches, entire 6 strands is used, colors: olive green, dark green, aqua, pink, yellow, orange and rust
- cross stitch canvas or embroidery canvas with a defined grid
- embroidery hoop, also used as frame, mine is 13cm, but a slightly larger hoop is preferable for this project, possibly
How To:
Looking at the photo, you might want to transfer this design to graph paper, sorry I don’t have the time to do that for you right now, and then like all cross stitch, figure out the center of your pattern, and start from there.
Enjoy, I’m off to start another project, yikes it is addictive!
