Today Is Yom HaZikaron, Memorial Day

Today is Yom HaZikaron, memorial day for fallen soldiers, here in Israel, a day that is always sad, but this year with so many new families honoring their fallen sons/daughters, brothers/sisters, fathers/mothers and husbands/wives, it seems especially difficult. Sending my love to all those who are remembering their fallen soldiers today, we are so very very grateful for their service and for giving their lives for our country.

I happen to live right down the street from our local military cemetary, so I’m especially aware of the visiting families that come year after year. And this year, my kids alerted me to a huge pile of spent cyclamen that had been tossed to make way for new flowers for today, so I rescued a bunch, to enjoy now and for years to come. I will always remember that these red cyclamen are to honor our fallen soldiers, since they were plucked form the cemetary, destined for the garbage, and saved by me at the last minute, to keep on blooming for years to come!
