How To Make A Stunning Torn Paper Collage Bookmark

Looking for a relaxing summer craft to make with all ages, or just yourself to save and give as gifts together with a book? Take a minute and learn how to make a stunning torn paper collage bookmark and then make a bunch or share this craft with a group of friends! I have to tell you, I didn’t make this bookmark, rather I received it as a gift a few years ago from a dear creative friend with whom I play crafty gift exchange. Now that I’m trying to bring some form of organization to my craft room (store room, really, yikes) I came across this bookmark and realized that now is the perfect time to share it! Okay, lets get to it!

Supplies for torn paper bookmark:

• black chip board/matt board, cut into bookmark size, OR actually preferably to make multiples, cut a piece of cardboard just to the preferred height of the bookmark, and then cut into vertical strips after collage is completely dry

• thin colored paper, either origami weight or printer weight, preferably, but use what you have

• glue: a glue stick can work fine if the paper is thin, but with thicker paper collage medium or a white glue diluted a bit is necessary

Instructions For how to make a stunning torn paper collage bookmark
  1. Cut cardboard to decoration individual bookmarks or cut just to height, and then cut into strips after making the collage (much easier for making multiples)
  2. Assemble colors that you like, if going for a landscape look put green at the bottom and blue at the top, or if going for an ocean/lake idea, put blue at the bottom and light blue or sunset colors at the top.
  3. Tear paper into strips, and starting at bottom adhere first layer, then second layer with just a bit of overlap, and so on. You could theoretically glue each layer totally on top of the previous, but then the bookmark could get a bit too thick, so aim for just a bit of overlap.
  4. For best results, use decopage medium and adhere paper with a coat both on the underside of the each piece and on top.
  5. that is it, take this idea and run with it, i’m thinking of doing just that, stay tuned!
